Dr. Osman Ahmed is a Professor in the Section of Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the University of Chicago. He earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, completed his Diagnostic Radiology residency at the University of Chicago, and pursued a fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at Stanford University.
Dr. Ahmed's clinical and research interests encompass catheter-based treatments for venous thromboembolism, caval filter retrieval, musculoskeletal interventions, health economics, embolization, and interventional oncology. He has been instrumental in advancing genicular artery embolization (GAE) as a treatment for knee osteoarthritis, contributing to standardized reporting guidelines endorsed by the Society of Interventional Radiology.
His contributions to the field have been recognized with the Gary Becker Young Investigator Award and his selection for the SIR’s Leadership and Development Academy. Dr. Ahmed serves as Associate Editor and Social Media Editor for the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology and holds editorial positions with the Arab Journal of Interventional Radiology and CVIR Endovascular.
Dr. Ahmed's extensive publication record includes high-impact journals such as Radiology, Chest, and the Journal of Surgical Oncology, reflecting his commitment to advancing interventional radiology.
